WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture originated in China nearly 2500 years ago as a holistic therapy that uses very thin, flexible needles in specific points located on the body’s energy meridians. By stimulating acupuncture points, the flow of qi or “life force” can be changed and blockages can be dissolved.
The interaction between the acupuncture needles and pain receptors in your skin stimulate the release of endorphins. In addition, this medicine also affects emotional triggers in the brain’s limbic system and provides deep relaxation and a sustained feeling of well-being.

WHAT TO EXPECT
EVALUATION AND DIAGNOSIS
In your first session, we will perform an evaluation by asking for a thorough history of your health, diet, exercise patterns and chief complaints, and use unique diagnostic techniques, such as taking your pulse on both wrists and observing your tongue, complexion and other signs.
Based on this evaluation, we design a custom treatment to address the issues you are dealing with. Additionally, we strategize with you about simple lifestyle changes you can make or things that can be added into your daily routine to help balance out your life and give you the energy you need to succeed. This session lasts about 90 mins. Follow up sessions are approximately 50 – 60 mins.
Modern acupuncture needles are stainless steel, between one-half and three inches long, ultra-fine and quite flexible. They are pre-sterilized, nontoxic and disposable (single use). When the needles are tapped into the skin, there may not be any sensation. Much depends on the location (hands and feet tend to be more sensitive), the condition being treated and the technique used. Needles are typically placed in several points and left in for about 20-40 minutes. The goal is to normalize the circulation of Qi and blood by stimulating the energy point, which encourages the body’s natural healing process.
Most people get great relief from just their first session. Many of the positive changes to your body will be long lasting or even permanent. The number of treatments required depends upon the duration, severity and nature of your health condition. Some conditions are treated in a single session. Others may require a series of sessions over time.
